Funder FAQ
About NPHC
What is the National Public Health Coalition?
NPHC is a grassroots coalition whose mission is to advocate and educate for the protection of public health as a vital government service — now and in the future. We work across three levels: conversation, community, and government, backed by always-on “evergreen” support that keeps the whole effort running. You might know us from our founding initiative, Fired But Fighting. What started as a movement for displaced public health workers has grown into a national coalition advocating for the infrastructure, funding, and workforce that communities need to stay healthy..
Is NPHC partisan?
No. Our work is deliberately non-partisan. We meet with members of all political parties in Congress and state and local government. Our commitment is to public health as a public good — not to any party or candidate. We believe that all policy makers should be educated and informed about the ways that public health influences the lives of their constituents.
Your Gift & Tax Status
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. NPHC is a fiscally sponsored project of the Raft Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) public charity [EIN: 99-1103921]. Gifts are made to the Raft Foundation in support of NPHC and are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. You’ll receive a receipt for your records. Most gifts can be processed at opencollective.com/nphc. For information about giving by check, stock, crypto, or other ways of giving, visit donate.raft.foundation.
What is fiscal sponsorship, and how does it work with the Raft Foundation?
Fiscal sponsorship is a common, well-established arrangement in which an existing 501(c)(3) — here, the Raft Foundation — provides legal and financial oversight for a project like NPHC. The Foundation receives and manages funds, ensures compliance and proper use, and handles accounting and reporting, while NPHC runs the programs. It means more of our energy goes to the mission and less to back-office overhead, while still maintaining the accountability of an established charity behind every dollar. You can learn more about our fiscal sponsor at raft.foundation.
What is your overhead, and where does my money go?
The large majority of every gift goes directly to programs. . Visit our funders booklet to see more specific information about our programs and their costs. To set up a meeting to discuss our programs and budget, email us at invest@nationalphc.org.
Can I restrict my gift to a specific project or theme?
Yes. You can support a single project, an entire theme, an evergreen line, or the full portfolio. We’ll structure your gift however best fits your goals.
Governance & Accountability
How do you make sure funds are used properly?
Every dollar flows through the Raft Foundation’s financial controls and 501(c)(3) compliance. We budget each project transparently, track spending against those budgets, and report progress to our funders.
Impact & Sustainability
How do you measure success?
Each project carries specific, time-bound outcomes — for example, the number of public health experts placed with members of Congress, micro-influencers partnered with, or community advocates trained. We track those metrics and share progress with our partners. We’re continuously monitoring how our programs are working and tweaking them to make them better.
What will I receive as a funder?
Benefits scale with your level of support and are cumulative — from recognition and an annual impact summary at the entry level, up to named recognition, briefing calls, and dedicated reporting for larger commitments. Full details are in our funding booklet.
How is this work sustainable beyond one gift?
We’re building a diversified funding base and a broad coalition, so no single grant is a point of failure. Our evergreen lines — general operating, coalition development, rapid response, and data — keep core capacity strong between project grants, and every project is designed to build lasting capacity in Congress, in culture shift, and in communities rather than one-time outputs.
How to Give
What’s the minimum gift, and how can I give?
Support starts at the Catalyst level (up to $25,000), which can seed a scoped pilot — no gift is too small to make a difference. Credit and debit card donations can be made at opencollective.com/nphc. All other gifts can be processed through donate.raft.foundation. Regardless of how you give, you’ll receive a receipt confirming your tax deductible donation.
